New islands in the QCD phase diagram

Abstract: Recently, a few new terms have been coined to describe the multi-faceted landscape of the QCD phase diagram. Among them are different color superconducting quark matter phases, pseudogap and BEC-BCS crossover regions as well as the so-called "quarkyonic phase" (McLerran/Pisarski). In explaining where to find these islands, I will mainly refer to results from a Polyakov-loop Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. Predictions for characteristic observable traces of these phases are sought for in order to shape the experimental programmes of future heavy-ion collision facilities such as FAIR/CBM (Darmstadt) and NICA-MPD (Dubna).
